Service Description
This course is designed to offer a space for learning the art of creating beautiful jewelry. Beginner-friendly and PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO REGISTER ALONG WITH STUDENTS! Adults registering must have a student registered in an Akoma class. All tools and supplies will be provided. Prerequisites: Hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and fine motor skills to manipulate wire and create intricate designs. A little patience and attention to detail along with a willingness to learn! ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Meet Desiree Artemus, a talented jewelry designer and advocate for female economic empowerment. Hailing from Columbia, SC, Desiree has made a name for herself in the industry with her brand Aligned Quality Gemz over the past few years. You can find Desiree's artistic jewelry on runways, special events, and online. Her work has been featured in various spaces, including Eco Runways, Gullah Fashion, and Collab Content. In an industry that has historically lacked representation and opportunities for marginalized groups, Desiree has personally experienced prejudice and a lack of recognition. However, she has used those challenges to create a network of support for Black female businesses as founder of the nonprofit organization, The BRWN GRLZ Collective. Her creative passion for community and the education of our youth has led her to serve the students and their families here at Akoma Cares.
